Adoptions

Our available animals, complete with photos and biographies, are listed at Petfinder (www.petfinder.com). This site is updated regularly, and enables you to see exactly who is currently awaiting a loving home at the shelter. The pets available for adoption are show in the scroller below.

How the Adoption Process Works

Those interested in adopting one of our animals are required to fill out an adoption application and go through a screening process with one of our staff members.

Once you have found a pet we all agree is a good match, you can take the animal on a “Home Visit.” This is designed to be a no-pressure trial period, and typically lasts seven to ten days. If at the end of the visit you feel the situation is not working out, we encourage you to bring the animal back. If the visit was a success, we can complete the formal adoption process.

Our shelter’s primary goals in placing an animal are to ensure that 1) the animal be in its new home for the rest of its life, and 2) the animal's life will be filled with love, attention and proper care.

After the home visit, the fees are paid and the adoption papers are officially processed.

Fees

Dog Adoptions $150

Cat Adoptions $75

Mobile Adoptions

At various times the Humane Society will take animals to places outside the humane society. These off-site adoption events occur at different locations and catch the eye of individuals who had been considering a new pet, but who may not have made it to the shelter yet.

In addition to mobile adoptions held at various locations in Ukiah, HSIMC has traveled to Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park, in Sonoma County, to PETsMART and PETCO locations.

Mobile Adoptions are held to the same standards as adoptions taking place at the shelter. Interested parties are screened carefully, and animals must go on a “Home Visit” before being officially adopted.
