How the Adoption Process Works

An application is required of anyone interested in adopting from our shelter. Applicants are screened for a good match for both the new pet and the adopters.

If it seems like a good match, a tentative agreement is signed, and the fees are paid, and a Home Visit of one week is scheduled. This "trial period" is intended to give adopters a chance to make sure it really is a good arrangement, while giving a new pet a chance to settle in. If everyone is satisfied with the situation at the end of the Home Visit, the adoption is automatically finalized. If there are any "deal-breaker" issues that we can't help resolve in this time, the animal can be returned for a full refund.

Kittens

Our goals in placing an animal are to ensure that:

1) the animal be in its new home for the rest of its life, and...

2) the animal's life will be filled with love, attention and proper care.

Adoption Fees

Dog Adoptions $150

All available dogs are already spayed or neutered, microchipped, heart worm tested, vaccinated, de-wormed and de-flead. Also, local veterinarians offer a free Well-Pet Exam within the Home Visit period for animals adopted from the shelter. A free bag of Science Diet is also included.

Cat Adoptions $75 ($80 with cardboard carrier)

All available cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, feline leukemia tested, vaccinated, de-wormed and de-flead. Also, local veterinarians offer a free Well-Pet Exam within the Home Visit period for animals adopted from the shelter. A free bag of Science Diet is also included.

Mobile Adoptions

We occasionally take adoptable animals offsite to present them and the Humane Society to the public. Look for us at Friedman Brothers in Ukiah. We also routinely have kittens at Coast Hardware in Willits.

HSIMC animals have traveled to Petco in Santa Rosa, and to the Marin Pet Fair in San Rafel, and found loving homes.

Mobile adoptions are processed in the same manner as if the adoptions at the shelter.
